AGES – Ecological and Social Agroforest

AGES – Ecological and Social Agroforest
AGES – Ecological and Social Agroforest is a project developed within the framework of the “Green Spaces” call, supported by the Otto per Mille funds of the Italian Buddhist Institute Soka Gakkai in partnership with Deafal ONG.
AGES aims to deepen the experimentation already started in 2022 with the XFarm Agroforest project in collaboration with the University of Foggia and ZeroCO2, which led to the creation of the first agroforestry system (SAF) prototype on one hectare of century-old olive grove, with the goal of exploring new possibilities for the agricultural, social, and economic landscape of the region – discover more here!
AGES will allow for the implementation of an additional 2.5 hectares of agroforestry system on XFarm’s land and will build activities for raising awareness, education, and training on agroecological issues for the local community and all workers interested in such experiments.
This dynamic ecosystem integrates agricultural, forestry, and/or livestock functions, based on ecological resource management through the introduction of trees and other perennial plants in crops. The experiment is a response to the current and future challenges posed by climate change, the unsustainability of extractive and intensive agricultural practices, the prominent hydrogeological instability in the region, and the widespread phenomenon of olive tree rapid desiccation.
The project will kick off from October 30 to November 5 with collective planting, workshops, and activities of Manifesto SuperCamp 2023 – discover more here!
Il progetto ha previsto inoltre la realizzazione di attività di formazione per la comunità locale, webinar online e la realizzazione di una mappatura delle esperienze di agroforestazione attiva in Italia.
