The Residency

A workshop for moving bodies, with live music, co-led by the Collective Looking for a Nest through the languages of dance, theatre, music, and caring touch.

Taking inspiration from the metaphor body-seed -as a shell of information- and from movement – as an essential life impulse- we will explore techniques to refine awareness and activate inner resources, to try generating possible eco-systems of coexistence, listening, and beauty, in relation to other bodies and to the environment that surrounds us.

Residency’s activities

• Embodiment: Awakening and centring exercises
• Contact / Self-contact: Seed-Body (exploring perceptual and inter-relational dimensions)
• Transform / Self-transform: Mask-Body (creation of organic masks, their use and experimentation across visual arts and physical theatre)
• Resonate / Tune: Rhythm-Body (creation of sound layers through loop station sampling, dances between repetition and beat)
• Restituire/Integrarsi: Laboratorio Corpo-Collettivo (elaborazione degli elementi emersi nella residenza e creazione di piccole partiture teatrali o coreografiche)
• Disembodiment: Release and unwinding exercises

The Authors

Demian Troiano Hackman (Genoa, 1984) is a dancer, actor, and performer with cross-disciplinary experience in holistic practices. He holds a degree in Performing Arts from the University of Bologna and a diploma from the European Shiatsu Institute in Milan. Over the years, he has collaborated with various dance and theatre companies at a national level (including Michela Lucenti – Balletto Civile, DEOS Ensemble, Simona Bertozzi – Nexus, Fattoria Vittadini, Giuliano Scarpinato, Fausto Russo Alesi). He is engaged in research and training through workshops on touch and movement, with a particular focus on the intersection between bodily languages and wellness practices.

Elisa Spina (1994, Ancona) is a dancer, teacher, and choreographer. After studying Psychology in Italy, she graduated in B.A. Tanz at the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Germany (2015–2019). Since 2018, she has worked as a dancer and performer in Italy and abroad with photographer Isabelle Wenzel, Compagnia Naturalis Labor, Balletto Civile, Compagnia Bellanda, and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. She is currently studying at the European Shiatsu Institute in Florence, collaborating with Olimpia Fortuni and Pierandrea Rosato, and developing her research, often inspired by the sonic world of folklore.

Matteo Principi (Ancona, 1992) is an actor, dancer, Hatha Yoga teacher, and mental coach. He graduated from the Teatro Stabile delle Marche School and later from the Piccolo Teatro di Milano School. He studied contemporary dance and physical theatre in Italy, Belgium, and Germany. He attended the Flöz Akademie and completed a three-year advanced training course directed by Adriana Borriello. As a dancer, he has performed with M. Lucenti, E. Cosimi, W. Vandekeybus, and A.M. Romano. Since 2022, he has been working in community-based projects and theatre education, placing the body and bodily awareness at the centre of his research.

Jessica Papaveri (Ancona, 1992) is a workshop facilitator and visual artist. She specialised in Art Therapy at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts after earning a BA in Visual Arts from Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna. She has worked as a social worker in Argentina with minors at the Espacio Disparate Cultural Centre, and collaborated as a workshop facilitator with C.R.E.A.R., the rehabilitation centre of the Esteves psychiatric hospital in Temperley (Argentina). She later worked in Belgium, in Ghent, at Lejo vzw, where she trained in outdoor and experiential education.

Alessandro Baro (Ancona, 1993) is a musician, songwriter, and composer. He began studying music at the age of eleven and moved to Dublin at 18, where he started working as a street artist. In 2017, in Pakistan, his encounter with the percussion master ‘Dhol’ Pappu Sain marked a turning point in his artistic growth. Seven years later, he released his debut album “Prima Del Tempo”, an exploration between acoustic sound and live electronics, where raw and visceral lyrics explore the human/nature relationship, drawing from personal stories and everyday details. He is currently producing a new album/concert “Per la magia”, rooted in folk and traditional music, integrating instruments such as didgeridoo, Weissenborn guitar, and stompbox.

CARTOGRAPHIES – Manifesto of an unknown land

 

“Which is the relationship with the landscape we live in? How would we like to inhabit it? Is it possible to imagine a landscape of the future?

La Residenza

“We become different people depending on the landscapes we inhabit. Within landscapes, we learn how to walk, orient ourselves, and recognise ourselves within a culture born from the intertwining of natural and human elements. But the opposite is also true: we are the ones who generate landscapes through our everyday choices. Every decision is a dialogue between what exists and what does not yet exist (or perhaps will no longer exist). For this reason, the quality of our choices depends on our capacity for imagination.”

Residency’s activities

• GROUP WORK AND CRITICAL PERSPECTIVE_Building a temporary community and developing a critical observation of the contemporary landscape through listening, dialogue and shared imagination, connected to the topics of territorial transformation, ecological crisis, and coexistence.
• IMAGINING AN UNKNOWN LAND_ Starting from the reflections that emerge, the group creates a map and shapes a collective imaginary geography, a symbolic land made of natural spaces, human settlements, boundaries, and future possibilities.
• BUILDING AN ARCHIVE
  Creation of a visual and narrative archive composed of photographs, documents, images, objects, and sound materials.
• DELEGATIONS AND THE ORGANIZATION OF THE LAND_The group organises itself into delegations dedicated to the different areas of the imagined land. Through discussion and exchange, rules, relationships, and common principles emerge, leading to the creation of a Constitutional Charter for the land.
• DOCUMENTING THE LAND_Collecting texts, images, sounds, and traces of the imagined territory in order to build a collective memory of the journey.
